Golf 8 GTi Clubsport requires the R Intake

The MK8 Golf GTi/R intake manifold is a complete redesign of the stock intake manifold right up to the turbo inlet. Taking inspiration from our RS3 intake tract, we've made the most of the available space to create an intake tract suitable for all power levels, from stock to high-performance setups with hybrid or full-frame turbos. This intake system has been engineered to provide the highest possible flow rate while achieving the lowest intake temperatures. Every component has been designed to provide the turbo with a smooth and unobstructed flow path. The restrictive stock 73mm diameter intake pipe is replaced with a larger 94mm diameter intake pipe. The filter itself has an outer diameter of 192mm or 7.5? with a filtration area of over 110,000mm^2. The patented Venturi housing was engineered to provide the largest possible internal volume for the available space in the Golf's engine bay and ensures laminar flow to the turbo pipe. Finally, the duct seals the filter opening on the windscreen, but isn't solely restricted by the stock intake. We raised the front of the duct to now create an additional opening behind the hood, corresponding to an additional 7" diameter hole for the intake to draw from. The resulting system can significantly outflow the stock airbox while keeping intake temperatures to a minimum with the sealed design.

Dyno tests

Our MK8 Golf intake was independently tested by a reputable UK tuner, Regal Autosport. A stock MK8 Golf R was tested, along with a tuning box. The tests were conducted on the same day, testing the stock airbox first and then the Eventuri. No other modifications were made to the car. The first graph shows the results using a stock map. As you can see, there is a measurable gain across the rev range of up to 12 hp. This gain is noticeable even on a stock road car, with better throttle response and quicker acceleration. The second graph shows the results using a tuning box, which increases the flow requirements of the intake system. The tuning box was used with both the stock airbox and the Eventuri intake, with no changes made between tests. With a higher flow requirement, the stock airbox places a greater restriction on the turbo, which is evident from the significant gain achieved with the Eventuri fitted. We now have a power increase of up to 20 hp and 30 Nm across the entire rev range, which is even more noticeable on the road. We expect the gains to be even greater with higher tuning levels.

The improvements are due to a combination of reasons:

1) The closed system keeps IAT values low - the engine bay of the Golf can heat up very quickly, so an open cone filter will cause IAT values to rise and therefore a loss of power.

2) The Venturi housing provides a smooth transition from the filter to the intake pipes, both of which are designed to have an inner diameter of 94 mm. This contributes to more efficient turbo operation.

3) The entire system is made of pure pre-impregnated carbon fiber, which provides excellent heat insulation and has smooth internal surfaces, unlike fiberglass which has sharp resin lines.
