Eventuri intake for TOYOTA SUPRA MK5 A90 with 3.0L B58

The MK5 Supra Eventuri intake was designed to provide a less restrictive flow path for the turbo while maintaining low intake temperatures. Heat and volume are the most important considerations when designing an intake system for a turbocharged engine. On the Supra, the intake system is located next to the exhaust manifold, which quickly warms up the engine bay with heat. High temperatures are detrimental to engine performance, as the turbo would have to be charged with heated, less dense air, so the only way to minimize IATs is with a completely closed intake. However, this results in a restriction with only one air intake from which air is drawn. During development, we noticed an additional opening in the wheel arch area and exploited this by adding an additional intake in our airbox. In addition, our sealed airbox also features a gold reflection heat shield to minimize radiant heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To maximize volume, we cut out the airbox as large as possible to accommodate potential strut bracing. The stock pleated intake pipe was replaced with a smooth carbon tube, which also has a larger internal volume with an initial internal diameter of 111 mm (4.4") and tapers gently to match the turbo intake. The pipe provides a smooth path from the filter to the turbo intake. Finally, we use a custom-made high-flow dry filter that has been ISO-tested for filtration performance and has a larger filter surface than the stock filter.

Dyno test

Our Toyota Supra A90 intake was independently tested by AMS on a Supra with downpipe and software. The tests were repeated on the same day, replacing only the airbox for our intake. As you can see, there is a power gain across a large portion of the rpm range, with some areas showing gains of over 20 hp. This is the result of derestricting the intake path while maintaining low intake temperatures by maintaining a fully sealed system.

Another dyno test was conducted in the UK by Evolve Automotive using a downpipe and Stage 2 software tuning. This dyno chart shows the difference between a fully stock Supra, then with the stock airbox, downpipe, and Stage 2 tuning, and finally with the Eventuri, downpipe, and Stage 2 tuning, achieving a maximum power gain of 25 hp. All runs were conducted with the hood closed.
